Hi, my name is Billy, and I am currentlycurrent living in South Africa, and today I will be talktalking about what are my thoughts about gentrificationgentrify.

So, basically the definition of gentrification is whatwhen a maybe rundown area or well-known poorpoorly area suddenly becomes more modern or fellfilled with rich people, because now the rich people are movingmoved into that area, maybe to invest or to build bigger houses and muchsuch. So, what ends up happening most of the time is that poor people whenwho have been in that area usuallyusual have to be displaceddisplace or they have to move.

Now, my thoughtthoughts about this is that it comes with its pros and its cons, for example, the reputation of aan area. If the area is known to be more of a poorlypoorer area and maybe the government wants to removeremoval that or to change that reputation, I think that would be a good planplanner.

However, the concan to this is that it would be really saidsad that families who have livinglived here for, in that area, sorry, for many, many years, and now they're suddenlysudden asked to move because the prices of rent or just living inon that area has increased now that there is growth, sudden growth and interestinteresting in the area. I think if you are thinking of movingmovement to a certain area, you should be considerateconsiderable of the people who have lived there, and who have startingstarted calling that place househome. So, although it benefitsbeneficial the economy and it benefits the housing industryindustrial, it doesn't always benefit the citizencitizens.
